  • Lesson 1: Understanding the Artist

It is important that, if you are going to be looking over and examining artists' works, you become the artist. Once you have had some of the frustrations, inspirations, and disappointments that most artists have experienced over time, then you will be a better person in your examination of their works. So go to the following web site and create your own piece of artwork.

Creating your own art work hyperlink: Notes to the students: Read the directions and do what they tell you to do on this page and the next three links that this site will guide you to take. On the first page of the site, it will ask you to pick from all the pictures the ones you think are Gothic. Just do this in your mind (you don't need to write it down anywhere). When you go to the second link it will tell you to draw your own gothic cathedrals. Do this on your own paper with pen or pencil, taking your time and using some of the elements the site has shown you. Give this drawing to your teacher, after you have gone to the third link to compare your gothic cathedral to those the site offers pictures of.
